Creating Healthy Communities

The mission of the Holmes County General Health District is work with the community to protect and improve the health and environment of those who live, work, and play in Holmes County.

One of the ways the Health District achieves this mission is to regularly seek out grant opportunities to support the health and well being of the community's residents and visitors. In October, the HCGHD was awarded the creating healthy communities (CHC) grant which is funded through the Ohio Department of Health.  Thirty-one (31) awards were provided throughout the State.  This grant opportunity will provide the health district with funds each year, through 2029, to support healthy eating and active living initiatives throughout Holmes County.   The Health District’s CHC team will work with the Partners for a Healthier Holmes County on these initiatives.  Over the next two years, the focus of the grant will be to improve parks/playgrounds in Millersburg and to provide better access to healthy food options in the Holmesville area.   An integral part of this grant is to ensure that the community’s voice is heard and that projects align with the community’s needs and wants to ensure a healthy lifestyle, reduce chronic disease, and increase the amount of recreational opportunities available.  To engage the community and gather feedback, the HCGHD has hired a Community Ambassador who will conduct surveys and interviews with Holmes County residents.  Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for more information on how your voice can be heard.
